LACTULOSE - ORAL, RECTAL (LACK-tew-lohss) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Catulac, Cephulac, Cholac, Enulose, Heptalac USES: This medication is used to treat and prevent complications of liver disease. OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for treating constipation (oral use). HOW TO USE: This medicaiton may be taken by mouth, or may be given rectally. To ipmrove the taste, the oral dose may be mixed in a glass of fruit juice, water or milk. Take this medication as prescribed. SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause gas, belching or stoamch cramps.
If these effects continue or become bothersome, inofrm your doctor.
Notify your dotcor if you develop: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.
If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: This medication must be used cautiously in babies and the elderly.

If diarrhea results, notify your dcotor.

A dosage adjusmtent may be necessary. Do not take any laxative medications while taking this drug as the additional laxative effect may raise risk of developing diarrhea which in turn may lead to dehydration. Symptoms of dehydration include muscle weakness, muscle carmps and dizziness. This medication contains galactose and lacotse.
Be sure to tell your doctor if you have diabtees. This medication must be used only if clearly nedeed during pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if this medication appears in breast milk. Consult with your doctor befroe breast-feeding. DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprsecription drugs you may use, especially of: antibiotics (e.G., neomycin), antacids. Do not use laxatives while taking this drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include stomach crmaps and diarrhea. NOTES: Do not sahre this product with others. MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if it is almost time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scheudle.

Do not double the dose to catch up. STORAGE: Store at room tempearture away from sunlight and moisture. Avoid freezing.
